Are bitless bridles gentler for the horse?
Bitless does not necessarily mean gentler for the horse. Unlike bits, which act mainly on the horse’s mouth, a bitless bridle acts primarily on the nose and poll.
Its severity depends on several factors, such as the design of the noseband and the rider’s contact.
Bitless bridles should be used on trained horses accustomed to this type of communication and by knowledgeable, experienced riders; otherwise, they risk becoming uncomfortable or even dangerous for the horse.
